Chapter 3

Gautam's POV

" It's ok. He would not dare to do that again. But you didn't have to say all that. " she said to me.

" No it was necessary Maurvi, he would not come near you. If he does just let me know. Did you notice that your friend was shocked and she is still looking in our direction? At least now she will not think that you have feelings for him. You just need to show some affection towards me. " I said and she nodded shyly.

I drove to a nice and calming eating joint. I wanted to talk to her. I wanted her to be comfortable with the situation. I needed her help too.

" Maurvi...actually I am sorry, I should have told you about it earlier but I was sure you would have refused to accept my help and you know it was the easiest solution. I could understand your situation."

She was very quiet, but she nodded.

" Can I tell you something? " I asked her. She looked at me and nodded.

" First you promise me that you will listen carefully and calmly," I said looking at her.

" Ok, I promise. Now say whatever you want to," she said to me sweetly.

" Actually I am almost in the same situation. There is a slight misunderstanding between me and my friend exactly like in your case. One of my friends got angry with me because I was trying to talk to a beautiful girl present in a get-together. I was trying to get to know her as I liked her. He got really annoyed with me because that girl was his wife. I swear I did not know about that. He got married all of a sudden and none of us knew about his marriage. I apologised the moment he said that she was married to him, but there is an awkwardness between us till date." I looked at her and she seemed to have understood what I was saying.

" I can't even look at them in the eyes and can't avoid them either. Whenever we meet he seems to avoid me which hurts me as well as him. Our relationship is getting affected. So my best friend suggested to me that I should introduce someone as my girlfriend to them. It would calm him and he would be assured that I am not interested in his wife. So can you please pretend to be my girlfriend in front of my friends? "

She was about to say something when her phone started ringing. She looked at her screen. Prachi was calling her. Her eyes started shining when she saw her name. She picked up the phone.

" Hello yes, Prachi? ...... Yes, it kind of happened..... Well, I don't know... He just popped the question and I could not say no... Of course, I never had any feelings for Naman. Prachi I don't even want to talk about him. He disgusts me. I will call you later..... Yes, I am actually with him at a food joint and our food is getting cold. Bye... I will call you in the night. " She was grinning like anything and was looking so pretty that I kept looking at her.

She almost shrieked of delight. She smiled at me and said,

" It worked, it actually worked. She called me herself and is asking about you and how all this happened. I didn't know what to say... But then she asked me If I ever had feelings for Naman. Now she trusts me... Thanks a lot. It worked. But there is another problem... " She was speaking like a bullet train.

" What is the problem now? Tell me? "

" She is asking so many questions about you and about what you said... I said I would talk to her later but she is not going to leave the topic. What would I tell her? " she looked happy and tensed at the same time.

" Calm down... We will chalk out a story. You can tell her that. So will you help me come out of my awkward situation and pretend to be my girlfriend in front of my friends? " I asked her and she nodded.

I smiled at that and said, " So it is final. We will help each other and feign our relationship till all the problems are solved. Right? " She smiled shyly but looked a bit hesitant.

" So we need a story to tell our friends. So that they believe us and we need to be comfortable with each other. So what should be the next step? " I asked her.

She thought for a few minutes and then said, " I think first of all we need to know a few things about each other... So let's start with that... I think we should ask questions. It is the fastest way to get to know someone. We must ask about basic information first. "

" Ok, so what is your favourite colour? I asked her.

" Very complicated question.... "

" It is one of the most common questions, Maurvi. What is so complicated about it? "

" Well, what do I say? I like all colours. It depends on my moods and seasons. "

" Like really?? "

" Yes... In summers, I like all pastel colours especially baby pink, icy blue and lemon yellow. In winters I like red, blue, black, white...."

"Oh, God!! Let me rephrase my question, which colour you don't like much? "

" Ok... Green. But I like some shades of it too. " I rolled my eyes at her answer. She is so cute.

" You are awesome, cute and funny. But can you answer normally? " I was smiling like a lunatic.

" Ok, which are your favourite colours? " She asked me.

" Black, blue and red. My turn I will ask you first. What type of music do you like? "

" Ghazals, soft Indian songs," she said.

Seriously?? Very mature choice.

" Who is your favourite singer?"

" Jagjit Singh... I love his voice. "

" Old songs or new songs? "

" Old songs mainly but any kind of soft music. What about you? "

" Both.. "

" Where do you like to be, crowded places or somewhere calmer? "

" It depends... " She said after thinking for a few seconds.

" On what? "

" On this thing that is with me. If I like that person... Then I would like any place and if I don't I would not be at ease anywhere. But generally, I would like to go to a calmer place."

I kept looking at her... I did not know she could think so deeply.

" How about you? "

" Well, a crowded place. " I said

" Favourite food? " she asked me.

" Oh, very difficult question... I am a foodie... " I said with a smile.

" Ok same here... " she smiled too.

" Tell me about your friends? " She asked again.

I have 4 very good friends. We studied together in the same school in Dehradun. Then we went our different ways to make our careers. They are Rahul, Mehul, Vikram and Sagar. I feel I am closer to Vikram and Sagar. Rahul and Mehul are married now. By mistake, I showed interest in Mehul's wife. I didn't know that they were married. We get awkward whenever we meet."

" I understand well. I have already told you about my best friend. I have a few other friends too. "

" Tea or coffee? " I asked her.

" Coffee... Mom says I make the best coffee in the world and probably the worst tea. " she was giggling. She is really cute.

"Ok so when will I have the honour to drink the best coffee? "

" Anyday you want. " She smiled sweetly.

" Do you believe in love at first sight?" I asked her.

" No, I don't even believe in crush at first sight. " she smiled.

" What does that mean now? " I was so confused about her answer.

" Means I don't even have a crush on anyone at first sight.

"Have you ever had a crush on anyone? "

" Well ... Of course, I am not a robot. " She answered but I could see her blushing a bit. But why was she blushing? She said on the phone to her friend that she likes someone.

Lucky someone.....

Gautam's POV

We kept talking for a few more minutes but I felt that she avoided the topic of her crush. She asked me another question and asked me about my profession. Why was she avoiding that?

We shared more information like our birthdays. List of favourites, movies, actors, food, songs etc. I didn't even realise but we were talking for more than an hour. I loved every minute of it.

Maurvi's POV

We exchanged information about each other. He asked me if I ever had a crush on someone? I was dreading that he would ask it... I couldn't tell him that I had a huge crush on him... So I avoided the question and changed the topic. We talked for hours and I loved every minute of it.

Then he asked me, " So tell me about your first kiss. "

" What? Seriously? " my eyes were about to bulge out.

" Now what does that mean Maurvi? "

" Are you all right? I mean are you really asking me that? "

" So what is the problem? Oh ... You have.. never..? " He realised it but I got embarrassed.

" Have you never been in a relationship, Maurvi? " I just shook my head.

" Have you been? " I asked him

" Never been in a serious one... Light flirting only. I can tell you about my first kiss. She was my classmate when I was in the first year. " I smiled at him but could not look into his eyes. I didn't want to know about it.

" I think we must go home now? I have to do a lot of work. As it is I will have to work for the whole night to complete everything. "

" Oh ok, let's go, my girlfriend." He grinned at me. I smiled shyly.

" Get used to it, beautiful, as my friends are going to ask and say teasing things. They will tease you even more if you blush like this. "

" What are you talking about? I am not blushing. "

" Just take a look in the mirror." He was smiling at me.

We reached home and as I was going to unlock the door, he asked me. " So what are you going to tell Prachi about us? We have not decided on our story."

" I don't know... "

" I think you should say that I proposed to you and you couldn't resist my charm and fell in love with me. " He said with a smirk. Oh, this is going to be more difficult than I thought. What would happen if I really fell in love?

" Ok.. bye good night " I unlocked the door and went inside. I was lying on my bed thinking about today's events. It was an eventful day. So many things changed today. I need to be strong or I will fall for him. I will not take anything he says or does seriously. He is just feigning it. I am supposed to do the same.

Gautam's POV

I came into my house and changed into my night suit. I was happy that I found a solution to my problem. I was hating the awkwardness between Mehul and me. I still remember the day when I saw Megha for the first time at Rahul's party and then at the restaurant with Priya.

Mehul was behaving in a weird way around Megha... He was being over-possessive about her.

" Are you sure, You are not interested in her? " Sagar asked Mehul calmly.

" I am NOT interested in her... She is staying at our place and my dad is overprotective towards her as she is his best friend's daughter. "

" Oh... Ok, so you don't have any problems if someone else is interested in her." I asked, smiling.

He clenched his teeth but didn't say anything.

" She seems to be a very good girl. Very Beautiful, smart, talented, innocent yet feisty. A perfect combination... A kind of girl one can take home to meet his parents. Don't you think so Sagar ?" I asked Sagar and he nodded

"You don't know anything about her, just leave her alone." Mehul retorted

" But I would like to know about her. Why don't you tell us what you know about her." I asked again.

" That's it.....enough of this discussion. I don't want to talk about her and listen to one thing and once for all ... Just. Stay. Away. From. Her. " I must have been stupid, he was so possessive over her.

Then when he invited all of us to his place. His house was redesigned by Megha, I was very impressed with her hence I wanted to talk to her.

" Megha, can I talk to you for a minute, please. " She looked confused and nodded.

" Yes please?"

" No, can you come here, I need to talk to you?" I asked her. Mehul was glaring at me, but I couldn't understand his problem. He was not interested in her and was not letting me talk to her.

She walked with me aside.

" Megha, do you have anyone special in your life? I mean are you single?" I asked hesitantly.

" What ??? No...I..... "

" No. She. Is. Not..... Just stay away from her....." Mehul said, glaring at me... His teeth were clenched and before any one of us could say anything, Mehul grabbed her hand and started walking where everyone was.

" I invited all of you here because I wanted you to meet someone. So friends please meet Megha. I mean... Mrs Megha Mehul Shah..... My wife." I looked at Megha and she was looking at Mehul with a shocked expression.

" What???? What do you mean ....your wife?" Sagar asked.

" Wife means a girl with whom a person is supposed to spend his whole life. She is my wife. We are married. " Mehul was still holding her hand.

I was totally shocked and embarrassed at what I did. Though it was not my fault as I did not know that they were married.

" I am sorry Mehul... I didn't know that otherwise, I would have never said that. I am sorry Megha." I said in an embarrassed tone. He accepted the apology but awkwardness has always been there. Thankfully now it will go as when I would introduce Maurvi as my girlfriend, Mehul will be assured that I am not interested in Megha. I really hope that everything goes back to normal. I miss our normal fun time together. Thanks to Maurvi, everything would be back on track.

I am glad that I could find a solution to mine as well as her problems.

Her sweet innocent face was not going away from my mind. She was so cute, and shy. I could see a beautiful blush creeping into her cheeks when I asked her about her first kiss. She was looking gorgeous with that delicate pink colour on her face.

I wanted to beat that Naman for holding her hand so tightly that it bruised.

I have known her for the last 5 years... She is a very witty and intelligent girl with an amazing sense of humour. She is very bubbly, confident and feisty. But she is very innocent, just like a child at the same time. She looked very uncomfortable when I talked about kissing.

Somehow I felt bad when she said she has had a crush on someone. He must be a very lucky man. I felt a relief when she said that she has never been in any relationship and never been kissed. I don't know what I am feeling right away, but I am excited about this situation.

If I be very honest, I have felt a tug towards her but I ignored it as she was approximately 6 years younger than me. I felt my mind drifting towards her many times, during our family get-togethers and all the festivals which we celebrated together. Somehow this difference of 6 years has started to look normal as all my friends were getting married to girls who were 4 or 5 years younger than them and they all were happy. I feel I am going to have a tough time dealing with her.
